December Currently {Sweet December Dollar Deals}

Wow have I been a busy bee this weekend!  I've been learning how to make backgrounds in Photoshop, playing with new apps from the Windows Store (speaking of, you MUST get iFontMaker, it is the coolest app ever), and shopping around for curriculum enhancements for our upcoming fairy tales, winter, and Christmas themes.  I am now too thoroughly exhausted to go to work tomorrow.  :)

I just have to show you some of the great stuff I got to spice up our centers in the upcoming weeks!  I've always been a shopaholic great bargain hunter and here are some of my one dollar finds this weekend.

Dollar Tree

Dramatic Play Enhancements

Princess gloves, tiaras, and fairy godmother wands to spice up the dramatic play center this week for our fairy tales unit!  I also nabbed some other great toys for themes next year: a doctor's kit and some firemen hats for Community Helpers, safari hats for Animals, etc.

Bingo Markers

I refreshed our stock of bingo daubers for dot art!  Dollar Tree sells bingo daubers in all kinds of colors.  Today I hit the jackpot- they had just restocked a bunch!  Planning on using these with some of the dot marker art pages from Carrie's super cute and free Christmas Pack at 3Dinosaurs!

Christmas Cookie Cutters

Six pack of soft cookie cutters, love it!  Can't wait to use these for so many things!  We are going to make candy cane scented play dough, for one.   For another, I want to use these cute gingerbread man play dough mats Karen featured on her blog PreKinders a few years ago.

Blue Glass Stones

We are going to use these to make snowflake craft stick ornaments, as shown here.

Alphabet/Numbers/Shapes Puzzles

Yay for puzzles for $1!

Target

Stocking Stuffers

Of course you have to check out the beautiful collection of stickers, sticky notes, stocking stuffers, etc.  I love the Target Dollar Spot.  :)

Popcorn Boxes

Now these were a steal!  2 plastic popcorn containers for only $1!  I just had to get them, even though I'm not planning on using them for anything immediately.  If I were teaching Kindergarten, I would use them to make a popcorn sight words game.

Walmart

Present Boxes

Not sure how I want to use these yet!  The possibilities are endless.  I could make gingerbread man medial sound houses, which is a great idea I spied from A Differentiated Kindergarten and you can find by clicking here.  OR I could have the students match the number of presents to the box.  OR I could use them for beginning sound present boxes!  I think I'll head this direction and fill my sensory table with a variety of different toys.  The kiddos will have to find toys and put them in the appropriate beginning sound present box.  I'm going to get to work and put together a freebie for everyone soon!

Hope you got some good ideas!  Wish me luck, on Tuesday we are having an important corporate accreditation visit!  Don't forget to link up at Oh Boy 4th Grade for December Currently!  :)

There's No Place Like Space: Outer Space Adventures & Friday Freebie

TGIF!!!  What a week!  I absolutely adored seeing my kiddos learn about space, but this week was a toughie.  Sick and tired kiddos do not make for a happy class.  Everything kept going the wrong way: food spilled on the newly cleaned carpets, bloody noses on the newly cleaned carpets, bathroom accidents during the middle of centers, pink-eye working its' way around the room, forgotten materials at home, the printer at FedEx Office went haywire and messed up my play-doh mats, the copy machine at work broke, I broke the side mirror of my car coming out of the garage... Yikes!  I was seriously scared to leave my house this morning!  :)  So here's hoping the stars re-align this weekend and my class comes back rockin' and rollin' and ready to learn on Monday! With all that being said, it was still a fun and jam-packed week.  I loved overhearing one of my kiddos tell his parent, "Mom, did you know the sun is ACTUALLY a star?!?!"  And I got to...

Food, Health and Hygiene Fun & TWO Friday Freebies!

My first ever parent teacher conferences are over and I survived! They actually went really well. Although, as many of my parents said, I talk to them so much anyways it wasn't like they were hearing anything new. What can I say? I'm so proud of their kiddos and constantly have to let them know about it! :) Our theme this week was all about Food and Health with a little bit of Hygiene. Overall the week went a lot more smoothly than I expected, being that I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off finalising details for conferences, putting together invitations for Pies with Grandparents next week, and trying to pick a holiday song for our class to sing at the Holiday Program because, as the office keeps kindly reminding us, Christmas is JUST AROUND THE CORNER. Makes me exhausted just remembering! Anyways, here's a look at some of the fun art, writing center, dramatic play, math and science stuff we did this week! Art: Vegetable Soup Stamping ...

Families & Freebies on a Friday... err... Monday!

Paper Bag Houses Love how these houses turned out!   Family Trees Some of my kiddos were even able to write most of the names on their family tree!
