What In the World Have We Been Up To: Valentine Days Doozy

Happy President's Day Long Weekend everyone!  I hope you're getting the chance to catch up on some sleep... planning... and posting!  :)  Here's what we've been up to this past Valentine's Week... Word Work I really need to get better at snapping pictures of our word work, but here's some of the sight word fun we had this week! We also played this fabulous and FREE game from Julie at Make, Take & Teach in small group.  My class loves her games and they are fun to spice up our word work time in guided reading! Math Stations Thanks Vickie for this fun candy heart graphing freebie!  Grab yours by clicking here . We also practiced a bunch of skills: measuring, counting/graphing, number writing and number sense! These math stations come from my new Loads of Love Math Stations pack.  Check it out below! Science We put conversation hearts in hot and cold water, made predictions and then observed!  This was a g...

What in the World Have We Been Up To: Winter Week!

I've totally lost count of how many weeks we've been in school!  All I know is the 100th day is drawing closer and I'm not ready... report cards are due in 1 1/2 weeks and I'm not ready... need to schedule an observation and I don't feel ready... (I'm sensing a theme here.  Seems like there's always too much to do!) Here's a look at some the things I actually LIKE to do in January... :) Shared Writing This week we learned the sight word "in" and made a list.  Look at all those kindie sentences!  :) Word Work Thank goodness for Marsha's differentiated activities, I couldn't do Daily 5 without her! Poetry My class loved this cute poem!  We had fun focusing on rhyming words and searching through to find all our sight words.  After reading the poem, we illustrate it and keep our poetry journals in our Daily 5 book baskets. Mitten Retelling Fine Motor Craft You can actually grab this activity for FREE from Jan ...

What in the World Have We Been Doing?: Week 12 with 5 Senses

Happy Sunday!  I hope you're all having a good, relaxing weekend... (with Thanksgiving just around the corner, yeah right!) Last week was seriously the BEST week ever.  We were grooving, that's for sure!  Here's some fun stuff we got up to... Five Fat Turkeys Poem This poem was AWESOME because we returned to it for a writing mini-lesson on periods (notice how the period goes at the end of the sentence, not at the end of every line).   Five Senses Books Every day we learned about a new sense and took a sense-specific walk.  On our Touching Walk we brought back in one object and wrote to describe it.  (I LOVE how this little girl put periods at the end of her sentences and not at the end of each line.  Yay!) 5 Senses Science: Writing to Describe Popcorn (Freebie!) 5 Senses and Science: Mystery Scent Bottles I love, love, love this activity!  The kiddos had to use their sense of smell to predict what was inside eac...

Transportation Take Two: Wild about Water, Friday Freebie and a Giveaway!

Happy Friday!  :)  I am so exhausted/achy/drowning in mucus... okay sorry, that was gross!  (But true.  I hate colds!)  Luckily I have the best class in the world!  They are so sweet.  They were very considerate of my voice (or lack thereof) all week, and we still had bunches of fun.  I am so blessed!  And I am starting to feel better with the warmer weather.  55 today and loving it!  :) This week was all about water transportation!  The kiddos and I are just loving this transportation thing.  Read on and take a look! Art: Sea Scene Sponge Painting Who doesn't love painting with sponges?  The kiddos used two different colors of blue and sponges to make the water.  I loved how ripply the sponges made the water look!  After those dried, they drew a way to travel on water.  I could really tell how much they had learned about different kinds of water transportation from what I saw.  :) ...
